Today was SUPER short! Literally a 9:30 to 11:30 day. I couldn’t complain though. I joined neurologist Dr. Kerek this morning in the internal medicine office across from Memorial. This office is considered a medicaid clinic which is designed for patients who either have no insurance or need some sort of assistance financially. The clinic is open for neurology once a month and is used for other specialities on other days. Because of this, I did not shadow on a typical day of neurology. This morning there were about 20 patients in the waiting room so everyone was moving super fast. There were 4 residents in the clinic that also assisted with patients. I was amazed to see that every patient was seen by 11:30am. The residents divided up the patients upon each other and then when there was extra help needed with a specific patient, Dr. Kerek was asked to go in with them. I noticed that for patients who battle seizures on a regular basis, the number one medication prescribed to them is called Keppra. So it seemed repetitive in that sense. However, I am not totally against that; I would definitely consider neurology.Because Dr. Kerek was super busy I probably got to tell him a total of 3 sentences but that's okay; I think I still got a pretty good idea of what neurology is like. In addition, I asked him if I could join him on another day while he is working at his Greer office and he said yes!
Can't wait for tomorrow!!
